Pakistan Officially Connects to One of the World’s Fastest Undersea Internet Cables. Pakistan has achieved a major breakthrough in its digital transformation with the successful onboarding of the SEA-ME-WE 6 undersea cable system—one of the fastest and most advanced global submarine networks. Federal IT and Telecom Minister Shaza Fatima confirmed the development, highlighting it as a significant step toward boosting Pakistan’s global connectivity and enhancing nationwide internet capacity.
This marks the third international cable system added within a single year, following the Africa-1 and 2Africa cable landings. It is one of the fastest periods of expansion ever recorded in Pakistan’s submarine cable infrastructure.
SEA-ME-WE 6: A Huge Boost to Pakistan’s Internet Bandwidth
The SEA-ME-WE 6 (South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 6) system is now officially connected through Transworld Associates (TWA), the project’s landing partner in Pakistan.
- TWA will initially add 4 Tbps (terabits per second) of new international capacity.
- Pakistan’s total bandwidth capacity of 13.2 Tbps will increase by nearly 40% with this addition.
- This upgrade will directly support Pakistan’s rising demand for video streaming, cloud services, fintech, artificial intelligence, and digital businesses.
With this development, Pakistan takes a major step toward more stable, high-speed internet—especially important during peak usage times.
A 21,700 km Global Cable Connecting Pakistan to the World
Stretching nearly 21,700 kilometres, SEA-ME-WE 6 links Pakistan to multiple countries between Singapore and France. It is one of the world’s most advanced subsea systems, built to support rapidly growing data traffic.
Technical Capacity
- Minimum design capacity: 132 Tbps
