HEC Introduces Blockchain-Based Degree Attestation System. The acting Chairman of HEC, Mr. Nadeem Mahbub, has directed the development team to fast-track the implementation. He emphasized that the new system will remove unnecessary hurdles for graduates and universities, making the attestation experience significantly more efficient.

Under the upcoming blockchain framework, applicants will be able to verify their degrees online without any physical visits, queueing, or manual submission of documents. Instead of traditional stamping and in-person verification, the blockchain will serve as a tamper-proof digital vault for academic records.

Automatic Integration for ERP-Enabled Universities

One of the most notable features of this system is its seamless data integration capability. According to HEC:

  • 25 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that already use an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system will have their student records automatically synced to the blockchain.
  • For graduates of these universities, no document submission will be required.
  • Their degrees will be added to the blockchain immediately after graduation, making attestation almost instant.

This means students from ERP-enabled institutions will enjoy a hassle-free experience, with verified digital degrees accessible directly through the HEC portal.

Simple Online Submission for Other Institutions

Universities that have not yet adopted ERP will still benefit from the revamped system. Students from such institutions will:

  1. Upload scanned copies of their degrees and transcripts through the HEC online portal.
  2. The documents will then be forwarded to their respective university dashboards.
  3. After the university verifies the records, the documents will be moved to the blockchain for permanent digital storage.

This hybrid validation approach ensures that all universities—whether technologically advanced or not—can smoothly transition into the new attestation ecosystem.

Fully Digital, Tamper-Proof, and Instantly Verifiable Degrees

Once a degree enters the HEC blockchain, it becomes:

  • Digitally secured
  • Immutable (cannot be altered or forged)
  • Accessible for instant verification

Government departments, embassies, foreign offices, and private-sector employers will be able to authenticate degrees directly online. This eliminates the long-standing problem of forged academic credentials and reduces verification time from weeks to minutes.

The blockchain system will also allow graduates to download or share attested credentials with institutions worldwide without needing physical stamps or paper-based documents.

Why This Shift Matters for Students and Institutions

The traditional degree attestation process often involved:

  • Long queues at HEC offices
  • Manual checking of documents
  • Delays caused by missing paperwork
  • Risks of document loss or damage

The new blockchain-based system solves all of these issues by offering:

100% Paperless Processing

No more printing, scanning, or couriering.

Automated Verification

Universities verify documents once; the blockchain maintains them permanently.

Enhanced Transparency

Applicants can track the status of their attestation directly through the portal.

Global Acceptance

Digitally stamped, tamper-proof degrees increase international trust.

A Major Milestone in Pakistan’s Educational Digitalization

With this transition, Pakistan joins the growing list of countries adopting blockchain for academic verification. It marks one of the most significant upgrades to the national education infrastructure, replacing outdated manual systems with advanced, secure digital technology.

HEC’s blockchain attestation initiative will not only simplify the process for millions of students but will also strengthen Pakistan’s global academic credibility.

The coming months will be crucial as HEC prepares to launch the system, but one thing is clear—the era of manual degree attestation in Pakistan is officially coming to an end.

Conclusion

The HEC’s new blockchain attestation system marks a major leap toward secure, paperless, and automated degree verification in Pakistan. By eliminating manual processes and ensuring instant authentication, it will simplify procedures, reduce delays, and improve trust in academic credentials nationwide.
